Symphony Choir of Johannesburg’s 40th (42nd) Birthday Concert

The Symphony Choir of Johannesburg turned 40 in 2020 but due to Covid restrictions we were not able to celebrate the occasion – now two years later we’re going to have our Birthday Concert.

This will be a concert with a difference! The main theme is AfroPops – songs from the African Pop-music scene added to which is a sprinkling of well known Western popular tunes – think Lloyd Webber, ABBA, Orf.

42 years is no mean feat; many choristers have passed through the ranks of the choir during that time – and some have stood the test of time! One person has been in the choir since the beginning and quite a few have been members for 35 – 40+ years. That speaks of dedication, commitment, and the joy of singing in the Symphony Choir of Johannesburg!

Those who have left – for whatever reason – are often thought of and reminisced about with kindness and we hope to see a lot of them in the audience – joining us in our Birthday celebrations.

Soloists: Tim Moloi, Gloria Bosman, and Monde Msutwana.

Conducted by Richard Cock.
