Susan Cock

Sue Cock was educated at UCT where she obtained her B Mus degree Cum Laude.  She worked for a short spell at the SABC as a Music producer where she met her husband, Richard. She is a passionate teacher, having taught at both Junior and Senior levels. Her final teaching post was Head of Music at St Mary’s School in Waverley Johannesburg.

Sue’s life path next took her to Classicfm 1027, where she launched Classical Music 101, a programme aimed at educating adults about music and where she was responsible for music content on the station.

Before becoming Music Director for the Symphony Choir of Johannesburg, Sue was Assistant Director of the choir for many years. Further choir experience included the inVerse chamber choir which sang to great critical acclaim, working and touring with various school choirs, and conducting massed choir events including the St Stithians Choir Festival in Johannesburg, the Makaranga Festival in Durban, and the Rotary Last Night of the Proms in Cape Town.

Sue is a great believer in the power of community music to bring joy to peoples’ lives. She has continued her love of community events through her involvement in Orchestra from Scratch both in Durban and Johannesburg. She believes strongly in allowing people to participate in music making to the best of their ability and is continually trying to find platforms for amateur musicians (old and young) to perform.

At present Sue pursues her passion for music with a series of Music Appreciation lectures for adults. She is organist and worship leader at St Luke’s church, and she is also a brilliant teacher, composer and arranger and freelance conductor.
