“I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” – well, with the cold weather we’ve had recently that might just happen!
However, this past weekend was gloriously warm and everyone attending our concert at the Linder Auditorium were treated to glorious music. The Beethoven Mass in C Major, despite being overshadowed by his Missa Solemnis, is a wonderful work as is Bruckner’s Te Deum and both choir, orchestra and soloists were on top form.
The two pieces are not performed that often and are sometimes seen as quite difficult, but everyone rose to the occasion and gave a wonderful performance.
When Beethoven wrote his Mass in C Major Europe was in the throes of the Napoleonic Wars – with the wars in the world today his pleas and cries for peace have lost none of their relevance! Doesn’t mankind ever learn!
Next up will be the Christmas concerts – and this year there will be two of the much-loved traditional concerts
